In a prolonged emergency, there is likely to be a real need to have a nearly full time radio presence so that you can receive information from around the country or a team out on patrol in the field.
100% correct, this will cause an issue for a lot of folks. I do have a GPS dongle but chose not to use it. As you point out its vulnerable to disruption and my goal was to use no systems that I did not control. Of note the system time and date can be off drastically and still work, its just the decode periods that need to start and end at nearly the same time.
