Tuners for portable operations
While this is by no means an exhaustive list of everything available, here are the 3 manual tuners I use for portable ops.
These days the MFJ-9201 rides in my go-kit, and I have found it very capable of matching a variety of multiband antennas. I use it with the Chameleon micro unit, 73' radiator and 25' counterpoise. I always have a 1:1 match with this unit, and like the durability implied by the 200 watt max power once tuned.
Another favorite, due to its versatility and light weight is the Emtech ZM-2. Though limited to 20 watts (this is portable, are you really operating QRO?) You can use the ZM-2 to match coax to your antenna, the terminals to match ladderline fed antennas, or a longwire and counterpoise.
Of note is that this Z-match tuner has no inductance to use in tuning, which limits range somewhat.
Specifically for long wire antennas, the MFJ 16010 is an L-match tuner that can accommodate 160 meter operation as well as both high and low impedance matching. I have however noted difficulty in achieving acceptable matches with and found it to require a rig with an internal tuner to completely resolve the match.
Last but not least is the Xeigu G90. It's not a manual tuner like the rest, but it kind of qualifies since I tend to think of the G90 as being a really good (and I mean REALLY good) tuner with a decent radio built into it. It is also my recommendation for anyone as a 1st HF radio, especially if they want portability and low receive current (not to mention lower price).
